Forever Never - I Can't Believe It's Not MetalForever Never – I Can’t Believe It’s Not Metal

Forever Never have just finished a massive UK tour supporting Fozzy and to coincide with that tour they released their brand new EP ‘I Can’t Believe It’s Not Metal’ and the EP has had a limited pressing of 1000 copies and will only be sold at the bands live shows and is bound to become a collector’s item in years to come when Forever Never finally hit the mainstream which they are currently on track to do.

‘I Can’t Believe It’s Not Metal’ is an EP which featured 6 cover songs from artists such as Seal, Whitesnake, Michael Jackson, Shaggy, Go West and John Farnham, and Forever Never have managed to turn these classic songs into their own whilst turning the volume up a couple of extra notches rocking out in the best possible way.

The EP opens with ‘Your The Voice’ a song which was originally recorded by John Farnham and I have to say that Forever Never have given this 80’s masterpiece a really good reworking and made it their own with the beautifully flowing slow vocals and retro riffs and overall 80’s vibe, the song is so listenable that you will find yourself putting it on repeat.

Over the past ten years many rock bands have covered songs by Michael Jackson, Alien Ant farm did it with ‘Smooth Criminal’, Fall Out Boy did it with ‘Billie Jean’ and now Forever Never have done it with ‘Who Is It’ and they have brought this fantastic pop song to life and I can guarantee that you will be hooked as soon as you hear the rifftastic guitar introduction, the vocals from frontman Renny Carroll are fantastic throughout with many Michael Jackson classic sounds being mimicked to near perfection.

‘Still Of The Night’ will please fans of old skool rock as Forever Never cover this classic Whitesnake track, the guitar riffs are ace sounding like machine guns going off in places and the general feel and attitude of the song is just spot on.

One of the best and most funniest covers on the EP is Shaggy’s ‘Bombastic’ which features the boys from Skindred on the song, the guitars and general instrumental work is extremely heavy with some proper chunky riffs on offer, the joint vocals from Renny Carroll and Benji Webbe are fantastic and really prove that these two bands can work as a team.

‘We Close Our Eyes’ is one of the lesser known songs on the EP and was originally recorded by Go West, a band that I don’t know too much about myself, the song is really good with the fast paced chunky guitar riffs taking centre stage and really standing out, the general flow of the song is good and once again Renny really shines with his vocals.

The EP closes with the Seal classic ‘Future Love Paradise’ and this is the moment where Renny really gets to show off with his voice as the instrumental work is kept to a minimal here as Renny gets to show off his emotions and huge vocal range.

Overall ‘I Can’t Believe It’s Not Metal’ is a fantastic idea and works extremely well for Forever Never they get to show off their creative side as well as having a bit of fun, the EP is a bit of a stop gap whilst they work on their third studio album and I am sure that they are going to gain a hell of a lot of fans once people start picking up on these cover songs.
