Pretty much everyone who loves alternative music
would of heard of InMe and the majority of people
who love InMe will quote that the song ‘Faster
The Chase’ from their 2005 ‘White Butterfly’
album is the best song that they have ever released,
well that is obviously up for debate as you are
never going to get everyone to agree on the same
thing but if I had to pick that would be at the
top of my list of favourite InMe tracks, and for
those who can’t pick there is no need to worry
as InMe are set to release ‘Phonenix The Best
Of InMe’ on the 27th September and it is crammed
with 12 stunning tracks which span throughout their
4 albums as well as 3 brand new tracks written exclusive
for this best of compilation.
Over the years InMe have gone through a lot of
good such as having hit albums, sold out tours,
amazing live DVD’s to shit such as various
different line up changes, car crashes and even
frontman Dave McPherson suffering with alopecia,
but no matter what has happened in the InMe camp
good or bad they have always kept positive and
come out stronger, and with the release of ‘Phoenix’
they have the perfect opportunity to release all
those good moments in one compilation.
‘Phoenix’ opens with ‘Safe
In A Room’ a track taken from the bands
second album ‘White Butterfly’ and
in my opinion the song is the perfect opener to
the album as in places it is really aggressive
and strong sounding and then in other places it
is quite melodic with sing-a-long moments which
gives you the best of both worlds of InMe as they
are well known for their chunky riffs and aggressive
vocals but equally known for their beautiful sounding
sing-a-long bits.
Other song’s on ‘Phoenix’ from
their ‘White Butterfly’ album is ‘Faster
The Chase’ and ‘Chamber’, now
‘Chamber’ is a good slow paced song
with some fantastic instrumental work but it is
‘Faster The Chase’ that made me love
the ‘White Butterfly’ album and is
also the song that makes ‘Phoenix’
a must buy purchase for all rock fans, for people
who don’t remember the song first time around
it is a massive arena anthem with a big sing-a-long
chorus and a overall feeling that is big in every
possible way.
Tracks featured on the album from their debut
album ‘Overgrown Eden’ are ‘Underdose’,
‘Firefly’ and ‘Crushed Like
Fruit’ and out of the three tracks ‘Underdose’
is the best, it is the first single that InMe
released from the album back in 2003 and it is
heavy as fuck with proper aggressive chunky sounding
guitar riffs, pounding basslines and constant
heavy drumming and not to forget Dave’s
unique vocals which really do stand out during
the growl along chorus.
The best thing about ‘Phoenix’ is
the fact that you can skip through all the tracks
and see how the band have progressed and matured
over the years for example if you listen to ‘Underdose’
you will see that they are really aggressive but
then if you put ‘Myths And Photographs’
on you will see that within 5 years InMe have
progressed from being quite heavy to being a band
with quirky sounding guitar riffs and fast paced
vocals which have radio friendly all over it,
and then if you listen to ‘Thanks For Believing
Me’ a song which was written exclusively
for this compilation album you will see that InMe
have got soft in their old age as the song is
an acoustic driven slow number but then saying
that the closing track ‘Saccharine Arcadia’
is also a brand new song but also one of the heaviest
and most technical songs InMe have even written,
the guitar riffs are fantastic and as for Dave’s
vocals well he conquers pretty much every style
of singing within the 5minutes and 36seconds of
the song.
Overall ‘Phoenix’ is an amazing best
of compilation album from one of the most under
rated bands in the British alternative music scene,
InMe rock and I truly believe that everyone needs
a copy of ‘Phoenix’ within their music
collection.
