We are a month away from the end of the year and I think I have just found
my favourite band and album of 2006 in the greatly named Cancer Bats. The
Cancer Bats come from Toronto, Canada and have a mixed sound of hardcore,
punk and metal mixed together to make a really unique hard hitting sound.
'Birthing the Giant' is the bands debut release in the UK and is totally
huge and catchy and one of the loudest energetic releases I have heard
in a long time. Opening track, 'Golden Tanks' starts with a huge riff
and soon after vocalist Liam Cormier's old school punk style shouting
vocals come in and from this moment the album just gets better as all
eleven tracks are faultless. 'French Immersion' is a catchy song that
is totally full of attitude. The first five tracks on the album sound
pretty similar in sound and then things get toned down a little bit for
track six, 'Death Bros' which is a rocking song, then things pick up in
pace again all the way until the album finishes with 'Pneumonia Hawk'
which has some of the best riffs on the album and simply leaves you wanting
more.
The great thing about this bands sound is Liam Cormier's vocals as they
are right in your face, old school punk vocals and mixed with a mixture
of heavy riffs you seriously can’t go wrong.
I can see the Cancer Bats causing a storm in 2007 when they bring their
stunning live show to the UK which will be one not to be missed.
5/5
