Aqualung are currently gearing up to release their
sixth studio album ‘Magnetic Aqualung’
which is due for release on the 5th July but first
they are releasing their new single ‘Fingertip’.
‘Fingertip’ is a really interesting
sounding song which runs at such a nice upbeat
and bouncy pace but on the downside the song does
fail to really get off the mark and make a big
impression as the pace and feel of the song feel
the same throughout, it is very listenable but
there are no stand out moments and ends up sounding
a bit mediocre in the end.
The main B-side to the single is ‘Lost’
and I really feel that this song should have been
lost as soon as it was written and/or recorded
as it is just to soft and whiney sounding and
I don’t think I would be able to find a
positive thing about it even if I had a shotgun
held to my head right now.
The third and final track featured on the single
is ‘Reel Me In’ is a big surprise
as it is actually fantastic, it features upbeat
sounding piano noises, beautifully flowing vocals
which become more upbeat as the song progresses,
in fact the song is so beautiful sounding that
I could listen to it over and over again and not
get bored.
I feel the new Aqualung album is going to be
a bit of a hit or miss release especially if this
single release compilation is anything to go by,
let’s just hope ‘Lost’ doesn’t
feature on the album as it is shocking but at
least ‘Reel Me In’ saved the day this
time around.
3/5
