Detached are a six piece ska/punk band from South
Wales, the place which is really buzzing with talented
musicians these days and you can now add Detached
to that list as everything about these guys is fantastic
from their big sounding catchy ska/punk music to
their artwork and even professional looking promo
pictures, these guys clearly know what they want
as a band and they are out to achieve the success
they deserve and the release of their new EP ‘None
The Wiser’ should help them out in their mission.
‘None The Wiser’ is an EP which reminds
me of how the UK ska/punk scene used to be back
in 2002 when it was proper thriving, yes this
was before the whole emo generation came along
and completely wiped the UK ska/punk scene out,
well luckily for us Detached are here to help
bring the scene alive and that they should do
as the music they play is so much better than
that of any band from back in 2002.
The EP opens with ‘Don’t Bite The
Crust (And Say The Pie Ain’t Tasy)’
and the song is an absolute killer of a track,
it starts off with real confident sounding loud
and clear vocals and as the song progresses in
time it progresses in sound with really fast guitar
riffs, a two piece horn section, fast flowing
melodic vocals and shouty backing vocals, the
song does have a poppy feel to it but at the same
time it also has so much going on at once it is
pure hectic, in a good way of course.
‘F.U’B’ is the shortest track
on the EP clocking in at 2minutes and 17seconds,
the song opens with crunching guitar riffs and
big old drum beats that sound bigger and heavier
as the song progresses, the horn section comes
in within the first 20 seconds of the song, giving
the song that big skank along ska feel, the vocals
once again flow really fast and strong and the
gang vocals are something else.
‘Teeth Rattling Boneshaker’ see’s
the band take on a more toned down approach, the
heavy instrumental work was left in the recording
studio for this song as the song is a pure ska
rock song which oddly reminds me of the leaders
of the UK ska scene [Spunge], give it a listen
and you will instantly see what I mean.
‘Lock Up’ is a real happy sounding
summer ska song, ‘Horizons’ is one
of the best tracks on the EP with the way that
each band members show’s off their instrumental
work as each instrument builds up in its own way
leading to the big Less Than Jake sounding sing-a-long
chorus.
The EP closes with ‘Rid Of It’ another
song that is instantly catchy, the song is full
of horn sections and they are brilliant, but it
is actually the melodic chorus where the song
really does come to life and shine.
As mentioned above I love Detached and love everything
about their latest EP ‘None The Wiser’
and feel that it is the perfect soundtrack to
the summer.
