The opening track “Belorado” is a daunting
prospect at nearly nine minutes in length, and when
the guitar begins with a newly-married-bell-ring
melody, you're leaning towards the eject button.
But then, a couple of corny power chords later,
you're intrigued. Outrageously cheesy, but makes
its way into a fairly decent verse, with the identical
rhythm (and similar feel I suppose) of Sweet Child
Of Mine. But then I get the feeling this is reasonably
Bruce Springstein too – but I cannot be sure
as I can't stand him. But yeah, I'll stick with
that.
The entire album, as it turns out, all sounds
about twenty years too late, but it still works,
it really does. It's everything your Dad played
when you were younger, rolled into one. It's even
recorded in a very clever and, well, respectful
way, they've really got it spot on. I hope you
understand what I mean. Pacey, listenable rock,
that will sometimes dive off into a random solo,
and the vocals are a prominent male. It's in no
way Axel Rose or Ozzy Osbourne, something much
more sedate – and all in all I'm surprised
to say I'm enjoying it.
Besides the opener, I've got a lot of time for
“Moon Landing” the title track, and
“High Society,” they're particular
winners, but then again I tend to enjoy the ones
with a bit more pace. There are a couple of slower
numbers on the album which aren't bad but, those
are my top picks.
4.5/5
