I really can’t believe that The Chemists are
still releasing singles from their debut album ‘The
Theories Of DR. Lovelock’ because over the
past 18 months they must have released every song
from the album in some shape or form as their latest
single ‘This City’ happens to be the
sixth single release taken from the album and other
songs from the album were bundled with the singles
as B-sides, anyway let’s not put too much
of a downer on a good song as ‘This City’
is pretty damn good.
‘This City’ blasts off into a riff-tastic
anthem from the start, it is big and bouncy with
the drums smashing their way in a massive fashion
with the meaty guitar riffs following in style
moments later, the vocals from ‘Johnny Benn’
are big and catchy yet quite hard hitting in places,
overall everything that happens during the 3minutes
of ‘This City’ is well put together
and perfectly in place.
The story of ‘This City’ is about
what happens when drugs and drink meet jet lag
and hookers in Hong Kong which has been experienced
by vocalist Johnny Benn first hand, no matter
what happened with Johnny that night we all know
that a killer tune was the result of it.
4/5
