I have been waiting some time for the debut album
‘Buildings’ from General Fiasco, well
ever since the later part of 2009 when I heard their
punchy indie single ‘We Are The Foolish’
and then the follow up ‘Ever So Shy’
earlier this year, both songs are totally different
from each other but each have a infectious streak
which is hard to shake off.
‘Buildings’ is an album which features
10 tracks with the majority of the tracks being
killer and only a couple being fillers, the album
starts off with ‘We Are The Foolish’
the song which started off the General Fiasco
hype for me, whilst listening to the song you
will instantly fall in love with the loud, clear
and infectious vocals and just as the song is
ending you will be smiling with excitement hoping
for more of those massive drum beats.
The latest single ‘Ever So Shy’ is
the next song on the album and it opens with spoken
word vocals of “Let’s Get Wasted,
Let’s Get Wasted” before zooming off
on a melodic journey which features a biog anthemic
chorus which will have you punching and chanting
along word for word.
‘Please Take Your Time’ is a simple
sounding song which hits all the right notes and
generally sucks you in to appreciate the killer
guitar riffs, bouncy basslines and beautiful sounding
clear vocals.
The album title track ‘Buildings’
see’s General Fiasco turn the sound down
a notch or two as they reveal their softer side,
and they do it with style vocally and instrumentally,
in fact the song is one of the strongest sounding
song’s on the album despite the mellow soundscapes
and vibe.
In my opinion the best track on the album actually
is ‘Sinking Ships’, the lyrics are
well written, the vocals have a really upbeat
feel about them and instrumentally everything
is spot on especially the banging drum beats which
are so effective.
‘First Impressions’ closes the album
on a high; the song is really happy and upbeat
sounding and will have you jumping around your
room in excitement.
For a young bunch of lads General Fiasco have
done extremely well with their debut album ‘Buildings’,
they have created 36 minutes of music that you
would be happy to listen to again and again, if
you are a fan of bands like The Enemy and The
View then seriously give General Fiasco a listen
as they have a slight hint of both bands within
their sound.
5/5
