For their latest single Breed 77 have decided to
do a cover version rather than release one of their
own original songs, the cover version they have
decide to do is ‘Zombie’ which was originally
written and performed by The Cranberries, the song
became quite a hit back in 1994 when it was released,
so yeah fast forward on 16 years and here we are
with Breed 77’s fantastic cover of it.
‘Zombie’ is a famous protest song
that pretty much everyone has heard, well Breed
77 has given the song the Breed 77 treatment and
come up with quite a heavy rocking song that you
could listen to over and over again without getting
bored, The Cranberries version of the song was
quite easy listening with beautiful sounding female
vocals which sent the anti war message across
clear, the Breed 77 version delivers the message
but in a way that you have to jump around like
a lunatic making the most of the heavy yet melodic
ways of the song.
I know Breed 77 got a lot of stick from many
press people for including ‘Zombie’
on their latest album ‘Insects’ and
making it the closing track, but I really can’t
understand why as the song is an outstanding cover
which Breed 77 should be proud of as I know their
fans love every moment of it, just check them
out when the song is played in the live environment.
4/5
