All Time Low are currently one of the most talked
about rising pop-punk bands in the world today,
2009 was such an successful year for the guys, they
released their third album ‘Nothing Personal’
in the summer of that year and it went on to hit
the top 5 of the American album chart as well as
selling thousands of copies in the UK which helped
them embark on a sold out tour across the UK which
then gained them the interest of Kerrang magazine
who signed them up to headline the Kerrang Relentless
Tour 2010 with The Blackout, My Passion and Young
Guns and as I write this they are currently having
the time of their lives on that tour playing to
sold out venues.
Well back in the summer of 2009 All Time Low
recorded an unplugged session for MTV, it saw
them play some of their best songs in a stripped
down format to a lucky few fans and the session
is now being released on a CD/DVD package on the
1st February and it is a must have release for
the bands hardcore fans.
The package only features 6 songs but the 6 songs
chosen are proper classic All Time Low material
which sounds just as good acoustic as it does
electronic. The opening song is ‘Damned
If I Do Ya (Damned If I Don’t), and it is
so beautiful to listen to as the band fully get
into the music they are playing, the small crowd
clap along and scream during the quieter moments
and everything sounds so spot on.
The spoken word introduction for ‘Coffee
Shop soundtrack’ is met by massive screams
from the near all female crowd, the song comes
across in such an professional and beautiful way
and the lyrics sound so clear and meaningful.
The highlights of the package are the last two
tracks ‘Weightless’ and ‘Dear
Maria, Count Me In’, both songs are extremely
catchy and sound so good listening to in a stripped
down format and you just won’t be able to
resist singing and tapping along to every moment
wishing that you were actually at the intimate
show.
The DVD and CD are of the same set list and same
show, the DVD is good so you can watch the band
and crowds emotion throughout every moment, also
included on the DVD are a few outtakes as well
as an exclusive about a few bits and bobs, I personally
prefer the CD as you can create your own images
in your head of what the show might have been
like, either way ‘MTV Unplugged’ is
a must have for hardcore fans but if you are new
to the band I would suggest you check out their
‘Nothing Personal’ album first.
