The Safety Fire - SectionsThe Safety Fire – Sections

The Safety Fire are a band who formed back in 2006 and they are well known for their explosive live show where they show off the best of metal and hardcore music with various different soundscapes added to the mix for good measures, the band have been named as ones to watch in 2010 from various different publications and they are starting 2010 on a high with the release of their new EP ‘Sections’.

‘Sections’, is quite a progressive EP which you need to listen to a few times to get into and start to appreciate, and I say this because when you first put it on after the first couple of minutes you will be tempted to hit the eject button as it does seem to drag but if you just let it run you will start to appreciate the complex arrangements and hectic sounds.

The open track ‘Sections’ starts off with a mad instrumental piece which packs an almighty punch and then suddenly things go softer, but the softness doesn’t last for long as brutal and raw sounding vocals come in, the song takes you on a rollercoaster ride where one moment things are quite soft and then the next everything is so heavy on your ears, it’s a lot take it at first but after the third or fourth listen you should be loving it.

All the songs on the EP take the same formula apart from ‘Sululary’ which happens to be a short instrumental track which features echoing guitar sounds which comes across so soft that it verges on being depressing.

The best track on the EP is ‘Spoilage’ because it is such a long paced epic track which reminds me of Tool from the massive drum beats to the fast guitar riffs right down to the vocals, the song sounds like it’s dying to be played in front of a big crowd.

Overall The Safety Fire are made up of great musicians who have each mastered their instruments in a way that they have put together everything they know to create such a big progressive sound.
