Defcon are a six piece band from Austria who play
the hectic side of punk rock, they formed back in
2006 and have since gone on and released two studio
records and played well over 150 shows as there
time as a band so far, Defcon are now signed to
Lockjaw records who are releasing their debut full-length
album ‘Neon Nights’ on the 18th January
2010.
‘Neon Nights’ has been getting a
lot of praise across Europe already with many
people digging the lead single ‘King Of
The World’ which I have to agree is a classic
punk rock song that I could listen to again and
again without getting bored, the song features
fast paced guitar riffs and a big fast sing-a-long
chorus to put a smile on your face.
There are so many good moments within ‘Neon
Nights’ such as the all out instrumental
introduction to the opening track ‘Raise
Your Demons’, the noise that comes out of
the guitars here are enough to smack you in the
face and leave you with a fat lip as they are
fast and furious packing a massive punch. ‘6
Broken Bones’ is another classic track with
its heavy opening of hard to understand screamo
vocals which soon morph into more melodic sing-a-long
vocals, the instrumental work throughout is fast,
loud and ever so interesting.
The album title track ‘Neon Lights’
is a massive chant-a-long song which is full of
everything from squealing guitar riffs to thunderous
drum beats to screeching and melodic vocals, you
name it this song has got it.
As mentioned above there are so many good points
within ‘Neon Nights’ but the thing
that is going to stop these guys from being well
recognised is the fact that there are so many
bands out there doing the same thing but so much
better, Defcon may be from Austria but it seems
like they are trying too hard to sound American
which is not a good thing when the American bands
do the same but so much better, check these guys
out if you will but just don’t expect to
hear something you haven’t heard before.
