The Boyfriends - S/T AlbumThe Boyfriends - S/T Album

The Boyfriends are a four piece indie band who formed back in 2002 but did not choose there name until early in 2003 when the band decided to call themselves 'The Boyfriends' as they claim they are all such good boyfriend material. The band play easy listening indie music and have just released their self titled debut album upon us.

'Brave Little Soldiers' opens up the album and is a song about people who manage to keep their head up high in tiring circumstances. The guitar riff on this song is catchy and the drums are full of rhythm but Martin Wallace’s vocals are a bit dull but however, they work well with the bands sound. On 'British Summer Time' the vocals start off quite mellow and start to get faster and louder with the build up of the heavy riff, this song is full of melody and quite upbeat. The song was written at Regents Park on a sunny afternoon as Martin Wallace wrote down everything he saw and turned it into a song. 'Remember' starts off with an upbeat sound which runs throughout the whole song.

The opening of 'Adult Ache' is stunning with a constant drum roll and a really catchy bass line which runs pretty much throughout the whole song and this song really showcases the talent of the band. 'Once Upon A Time' is the bands third single and is a really happy upbeat song which is full of melody and is also one of the most radio friendly songs on the album, it is stunning stuff. The bands first ever single 'I Love You' is a bold statement about being in love, the song starts off with some great chords and is the most noisiest song on the album. The album closes nicely with 'There Is Always Hope' which runs for over eight minutes and features a mixture of noise and melody.

I think this album is pretty good and the only downside is that it lacks variety but that is only a small downside as the band are sticking to what they are good at.
