Now, firstly, two things. Firstly, it's always tricky
to review a Best Of CD, because you aren't reviewing
anything new. You're (generally) reviewing a collection
of singles which have already been exposed to the
public, and therefore people should already know
if they're going to like it.
Secondly, although this is called “Up To
Now” it is still labelled as a best of.
And it features just about every single they've
released to date, and a couple of new ones. Including
numerous tracks off of the first two albums, which
not only do fewer people know about, but neither
charted higher than #120 when it was released.
These tracks stretch the compliation over two
disks – which I just don't feel is necessary.
But hey ho, it'll alert everyone to the other
albums existance and no doubt get them some more
sales, so good for them.
For me personally, Final Straw was quite a good
album, Open Your Eyes was one of the best releases
of its year, and the new one is listenable. Songs
for Polarbears and When It's All Over We Still
Have To Clear Up don't really bother me overly.
It's quite unlikely that you haven't heard a Snow
Patrol song somewhere or other, and if you like
what you've heard, I think it's fair to say you'll
like this collection. Everything's pretty similar
it's just the pace that changes. And there's a
real variety here so, I think there's something
for everyone.
