EP Review
Broohaha - BroohahaBroohaha – Broohaha

I am very open minded when it comes to music, giving music from any genre a good listen before casting my opinions on it, but I never thought I would end up listing to something as random as the EP I have just been sent by Broohaha, really the random band name should of gave away the fact that I was about to listen to something random, but for some reason I never even thought about it, anyway the way the band describe their music is ‘Alternative, Grunge, Jazz, Heavy, Spiky, Polyrhythmic, Loud, Empathetic, Haunting, Incessant, Driving, Disjunctive, Striding, Aggressive, Energetic, Noise’ and I have to agree with it and don’t think anyone will ever be able to come up with a better description.

The EP features 6 tracks and they are all pretty similar in the way that they sound like big dirty jamming sessions where anything can and did happen, there is always a lot going on at once and it places it sounds really good such as in the opening moments of ‘Incredible Weapons’ but 3 minutes later when the track is finishing it seems to have over run for far too long.

The track which does bring a smile on my face is ‘Thunderbone’ it sounds like the kind of music Tim Burton would create if he decided to be a musician rather than a film director, the song features lots of random noise and the inclusion of a Saxophone and Trombone bring a bit of ska into the mix, the spoken word vocals give the song a slight spooky feeling, and despite the song being on for over 5minutes it manages to please me in every way.

Overall Broohaha are a creative bunch of people who create progressive music and songs such as ‘Huxatable’ and ‘Chug’ feature some amazing brass instrument work, whilst ‘Like Bad Penny’ drives on killer guitar riffs and aggressive screams, the EP is not the kind of thing you would want to listen to on repeat or when you are driving, it is defiantly something that grows on you the more you listen to it but I feel if you listen to it too much it will have you switching off all together.

3/5
