Now this what I am talking about ‘Hell Yeah’
the opening track from CodeJAK’s EP of the
same name, the song is proper dark and heavy and
packs a massive punch with its progressive rock
ways, instrumentally there is a lot going on with
big dual guitar work, massive drums beats and tasty
bass lines, you can defiantly tell that these guys
have spent a fair bit of time jamming in the past,
but what really shines about the song is how the
vocals have been put together, there is a set of
dark sounding spoken word vocals which sound unlike
anything done before whilst the other set of vocals
are repetitive shouts of “Hell Yeah, Hell
Yeah”.
The second track ‘Pull Out Your Knife’
opens with Dave Fisher showing off his bass skills
for a good 30seconds until the dual guitars come
in battling out, the vocals come in seconds later
and take you an hectic journey of shouts and screams
with repetitive vocals of “Pull out your
knifes, pull out your knife and come with me”,
this is pretty much how the song runs for the
next 4 or 5 minutes and believe me it is so good
to listen to.
The EP finishes with ‘Little Boy’
and the song has a really mellow opening compared
to any of the other songs on the EP with real
soft soundscapes and more spoken word vocals telling
a story about a little boy, the song progresses
at a fast pace and when it reaches near the 3minute
mark it explodes into madness with loud and heavy
vocals running over the top of massive Iron Maiden
style instrumental work.
‘Hell Yeah’ is one of the best alternative
rock EP’s that I have heard in a long time
and it is due for release on the 25th January
2010 to coincide with the bands tour with the
Rocket Dolls, which gives me faith that 2010 is
going to be a massive year for CodeJAK and I seriously
have to head out to see them on tour.
5/5
