Avosetta are a five piece post-hardcore band from
Norwich, they are majorly influenced by the likes
of Alexisonfire, Thrice, Finch and other bands of
the same genre, they have been together since early
2008 and have been busy writing songs and playing
shows in their local area, the band have also established
their own record label titled Burnished Salmon Records
which they are due to release their debut single
‘In A Nebula Fashion’ and their debut
EP ‘Of Our Lives’ on in early 2010.
In the meantime the band have sent me a four
track demo CD to review and I have to say that
that the quality of the demo is amazing from the
general production and recording to the overall
sound and feel of the band, Avosetta have a solid
sound and also seem to have a big passion for
being in the music business and the music that
they create.
The first track of the demo CD is ‘Of Our
Lives’, the song instantly makes me think
of Alexisonfire due to the well thought out musical
arrangements and massive catchy chorus which front
man Sam delivers with such passion, the song is
really catchy but at the same makes an impact
with the heavily executed guitar riffs and blistering
drumming.
The second track is nicely titled ‘Snakecharm
The Dead Whale’ the song starts off quite
heavy with aggressive sounding screamo vocals,
the vocals soon turn melodic and this sets the
pace for the rest of the song with Sam taking
centre stage with his melodic vocals and Jay coming
in every now and again with more screamo style
vocals, once again the instrumental arrangements
are immense with some great technical guitar riffs
on offer.
‘Warship Lanterns’ is the track that
stands out the most on the demo and that is because
the song is so stripped down compared to all the
other tracks on the demo, the musical arrangements
are kept basic and to an minimal level, whilst
the vocals come across real softly, however towards
the middle of the song it progresses into quite
an electrifying upbeat track.
I really like what I have heard from Avosetta,
they may not be the most original band, but they
are passionate about the music they create and
play, they also know what they are doing and what
they want to achieve and I personally can’t
wait to hear more from them.
