I will be the first person to admit that it has
taken me a long time to gain respect and love for
Paramore, I remember when they released the ever
so overplayed and irritating ‘That’s
What You Get’, the song was on a constant
loop on TV channels such as MTV2, Kerrang and Scuzz
and to a point where it made me hate Paramore at
one point, then I attending the Give It A Name Festival
in 2008 just to see my favourite band Alkaline Trio
and that night Paramore were headlining, I decided
to stick around to see what all the fuss was about,
and I found out within about ten minutes of their
set as they were a real tight sounding band that
were full of energy and front lady Hayley Williams
had an fantastic voice that came across even better
live than it does on record, and as an added bonus
to the bands emo following she is pretty fit as
well, anyway back to my journey of discovering Paramore,
I then went on and bought the bands ‘Riot!’
album and really enjoyed but still can’t listen
to the annoying song as mentioned above.
Since the release of ‘Riot!’ Paramore
have been going from strength to strength, they
released their new album ‘Brand New Eyes’
which debuted at number 1 in the UK album chart,
they have since announced an headline tour with
You Me AT Six which see’s them play massive
venues such as Wembley Arena, Manchester MEN,
the big sized venues that would of been a dream
to play 1 or 2 years ago when they were still
playing the average sized Academy venues and they
are now ready to release their brand new single
‘Brick By Boring Brick’ and I have
to say it is a perfect example of how Paramore
have progressed to become one of the biggest female
fronted bands in the world.
‘Brick By Boring Brick’ is a song
about how life doesn’t have to be some grand
production and how some of the boring parts of
being alive are actually the greatest and finding
out what really matters in life, now pretty much
every single person can relate to this song if
they really take time out to think about it, as
simple things in life such as having a Bacon sandwich
on a Friday and having that Sunday morning lay
in are really worth looking forward to and more
exciting than for example meeting Robbie Williams
in your local shop, anyway musically the song
is poppy-punk by numbers, it is simple and straight
to the point, Hayley Williams get’s her
point across loud and clear with her beautiful
sounding vocals and lyrics of “Bury the
castle’ before the rest of the band join
in for group vocals of “Ba da ba da ba”,
instrumentally things are pretty average to be
honest, the drumming is your average sounding
poppy-punk drumming that doesn’t bore you
but also fails to please at the same time, however
the guitar riffs pack a good sound and drive you
through the song nicely.
I am still yet to check out the latest Paramore
album but after hearing ‘Brick By Boring
Brick’ I can say that the album will be
on my Christmas list this year and that I am also
quite looking forward to hearing it all the way
through, ‘Brick By Boring Brick’ just
sounds and feels like an older and more wiser
Paramore from what you already know, and I am
sure you are going to love every moment of it.
5/5
