Album Review
Manchester Orchestra – Mean Everything To NothingManchester Orchestra – Mean Everything To Nothing

This is the best album of 2009. Without any doubt. From the first second I heard it, to when this is being written, it remains one of my favourite albums and is always one to recommend to friends. Manchester Orchestra's slots of Reading and Leeds this year increased their fanbase, with everyone without fail being blown away – and they're about to embark on tour with Biffy Clyro too – wow, what a treat.

They're been around for a little while, with a few albums, but it's really this one, that is so different, so epic, so fantastic.

The album has it all. Fast bits, slow bits, ball-rattling riffs, cryptic lyrics, mind-blowing songwriting, and sensational sing-along moments. (Or rather, shout along.) The chopping and changing of speeds is reminiscent of Brand New, and some songs such as a personal favourite, /In My Teeth/, draw on a vague Nirvana sound. /I've Got Friends/ starts out as a gentle twinkly track, and works its way through the verse before effortlessly transforming into a real sing-along, and a chorus that won't leave your head for weeks. /Pride/, a really slow one that meanders along, constantly reverting to the same riff, until at the end, out of nowhere, (well out of a breakdown but, you know what I mean,) one of the most exciting riffs I've ever heard. /Tony The Tiger/ is another winner, and runs into the delightfully epic /Everything To Nothing/, which finishes the list of top tracks for the album.

Basically, if you like Brand New, and even if you don't; if you just like music, then this album should defintely blow you away.

5/5
